Good News! Tomatoes Can Prevent Strokes!

According to a study published in Neurology, a diet rich in fruits and vegetables, particularly tomatoes, can cut your chances of stroke by 55%. Tomatoes are rich in lycopene, the chemical responsible for tomatoes rich red color. Lycopene has been found to reduce inflammation, act as an anti-oxidant, and reduce blood clotting. Heart disease and strokes and a serious problem in the United States, and part of the problem is due to a diet rich in fat and cars. It is important to get at least 5 serving of fruit and vegetables a day to stave off the risk of stroke. I love growing tomatoes in my garden, so I am glad tomatoes are getting the attention it deserves!
